Shining Star Application for Children’s Mental Health Services

In July 2024, the One Lamb Initiative lost our our beloved member Gayle Cummings. She was a cherished teacher, leader, friend, champion and mother, known for her inspiring spirit, talent, and boundless generosity. Her passion for helping under-resourced children was a defining characteristic, and she often spoke of her years as a teacher as among the most fulfilling of her life. As a mother and grandmother, she embraced every moment with the children in her family.

In honor of Gayle's deep love and dedication to children, a unique scholarship is being created through the One Lamb Mental Health Initiative of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. The scholarship will be named The Gayle Cummings Shining Star Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be given to underserved chidren with mental health concerns who cannot afford the necessary treatment/counseling.

The name "Shining Star" holds special significance, reflecting Gayle's unique approach to teaching. She made it a point to ensure each of her students felt like "A Shining Star," encouraging them to create their own star and then share what made them shine, with classmates affirming their unique qualities. This sweet memory beautifully encapsulates her belief in recognizing and affirming others, and truly was "SO GAYLE." To Gayle and the One Lamb team every child is a precious shining star deserving mental health services to help them thrive and shine.

The mission of the One Lamb initiative is to nurture and embrace mental wellness in a faithful community of connection and support. A portion of funds raised for One Lamb will be available to help members of our community with the exorbitant cost of mental health and addiction treatment.
